Human Rights Council

The Human Rights Council is a United Nations body comprised of 47 states all working in unison to protect and strengthen human rights within the international community. With regards to the UN councils simulated in CIMUN, HRC is one of the three permanent councils simulated yearly, inevitably forming a solid community with numerous delegates returning year after year. With the Human Rights Council in particular, it has often been exhibited that the topics discussed are usually of an integrative manner, meaning that the majority of delegations have a unanimous agreement over the course of debate. However, this years Human Rights Council is working towards an alternative perspective; tackling controversial issues that have often sparked heated political and social debate within the international community, and also in the UN. The delegates will have the opportunity to experience the council within an entirely new setting confronting controversial topics and proposing possible solutions.
