Security Council
Responsible for preserving international peace and security, the Security Council is one of the most powerful decision-making bodies in the international community. This crisis-based council is reputable for its power to legally use military force, implement economic sanctions, respond to international disputes and domestic outcries, mandate humanitarian action, and outline the binding law in order to govern unstable relations between States. Its intricacies reveal the power politics that shape the international community, with five permanent and ten non-permanent members representing the various interests and blocs struggling to win precedence. Ultimately, the Council has unprecedented power to respond to issues of international significance and this is exactly what draws to them the attention of the global community.
