CIMUN Programmes

CIMUN Programmes are one of the main features that distinguish our simulation of the UN than any other in the world. Through our programmes, we take one step further than most of the other Model UNs in the world, and we try to carry our mission of promoting cultural understanding and pursuit for a better tomorrow from our little simulation to the real world

In 1998, the MUN family decided that it is not enough for us to raise the pressing international issues and debate about them within the walls of our councils. We decided to take our message outside the boundaries of our campus and get practically engaged with our country's developmental issues. Accordingly, the first of our programmes, the MUN Development Programme, was founded. Promptly after the war on Iraq, the MUN Awareness Programme was established to spread awareness about the implications of such war, mainly on the American University in Cairo campus, which most of the students were - unfortunately - ignorant of. The latest of our programmes is the Environmental Programme, which was the first programme that was oriented towards the environment. MUNEP was introduced in our 21st edition to be responsible for awareness and development projects in the environmental sector.

Development is to help people lead a better life by understanding their needs and problems and by participating in the process of solving these problems. This is why MUNDP is guided by the concept "Development From Within". Cairo International Model United Nations (CIMUN) has acquired the reputation of being the most prestigious and professional student-run activity for the past 20 years. The Model United Nations Development Programme (MUNDP) is the outreach program of CIMUN aiming at implementing development projects to help the local Egyptian Community. It started in 1999 and was first known as the Management and Development Committee (MDC). MUNDP embarked on and successfully completed a series of projects; our projects always allow for true growth and development and never rely on purely charitable pursuits.

MUN Environmental Programme

Egypt today has a growing level of pollution and environmental crises, some already existing and some in the making. These problems have severe repercussions on the economic, social, and perhaps even political dimensions in the country. We are facing a grave problem in dire need of solutions, one which if continues unchecked, will lead to great devastation.
Unfortunately, in Egypt and most other developing countries, there is a sweeping apathetic attitude taken towards the environment that stems from a general lack of awareness about the issue . This program will have a mandate that is a combination of those of the Development Program and Awareness Program.
It will be responsible for:

  • Raising a sense of awareness with regards to environmental issues.
  • Holding awareness campaigns with regards to pressing environmental issues.
  • Holding lectures, seminars, workshops, and movie screenings that revolve around environmental issues.
  • Engaging in small and large-scale projects that promote environmental issues.
  • Collaborating with UN bodies and other related NGOs regarding environmental projects.

MUN Awareness Programme

The Model United Nations Awareness programme (MUNAP) is one of the three pillars of the CIMUN programme.  MUNAP serves not only as a mechanism to further the CIMUN message, but also aims to assert that message beyond the CIMUN community, both inside AUC and outside it.  In order to accomplish this, the AP Committee organizes a variety of programmes including lectures, The Vanguard – the official magazine of CIMUN, along with a foreign film series.  MUNAP also strives to collaborate with NGO's, research institutions, and international institutions.
