World Trade Organization

The World Trade Organization (WTO) was established on the 1st of January 1995. The WTO’s primary function is to ease, facilitate, and expand trade across the globe. Considering that the WTO maintains 153 member nations including all the global powers, this organization has indeed become the platform for enhancing global trade. Member nations attempt to achieve this goal by creating unilateral, bilateral and multilateral trade agreements between each other, resolving trade disputes and enhancing trade. This is done through the allowance of goods, services and trade related intellectual property rights to flow freely between nations while simultaneously placing barriers to trade where consumers would be harmed. The WTO also plays the crucial role of monitoring the progress of trade agreements and ensuring that all the agreements are enforced by the member nations.
