European Union
The European Union is an economic and political partnership of 27 European countries in which they share sovereignty in a variety of areas. However, it did not begin as such. In 1957, a common market for Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Luxembourg and the Netherlands was formed under the Rome Treaty. Its main purpose was to prevent war from ever breaking out on European soil. It has now grown and developed into the European Union, which is believed to be much stronger than the summation of its parts. Thus, integration has allowed Europe to have a stronger influence in international affairs.
