Junior CIMUN

CIMUN 2008 hosted the second Model United Nations for high school students in Egypt, within the framework of “Junior CIMUN”. The conference took place from the 23rd of October to the 27th of October.  This year, “Junior CIMUN” simulated four councils: two simulating the United Nations Security Council, and two councils modeling Human Rights Council. Participating students attended 3 afternoon sessions, in addition to an opening ceremony to the conference was held on the following two days, thus a total of five days were concluded with the closing ceremony on October 27th.

Through their participation in either council, students learned about international politics and law, were encouraged to participate in important and open debates, ultimately acquiring skills such as public speaking and negotiation which allowed them to assume the role of delegates during the conference. This was achieved with the guidance of members of CIMUN’s Secretariat team, who organized for the sessions and the conference. The conference was organized by the Organizing Committee of CIMUN.

The CIMUN family was glad to have these participants in this major event which gathered around 200 delegates, who succeeded in tackling topics of concern in a diplomatic manner, enriching their debates with creative ideas and inspiring thoughts, and concluding it with the adoption of their resolutions to the topics.

Having taken the first step, we believe that Junior CIMUN will develop into a solid institution, growing in the number of participants with varying school backgrounds, presenting itself to the Egyptian society every year. Schools which have participated over the past two years include: Deutsche Evangelische Oberschule, Deutsche Schule der Borromäerinnen, International School of Choueifat, Modern English School, New Cairo British International School and Smart International Schools.
