Welcome to the CIMUN website
The Cairo International Model United Nations was founded in 1989 by a group of ambitious AUC students under the guidance and support of the Provost of AUC, Professor Earl Tim Sullivan, during his time as a professor in the department of political science. Since then, CIMUN has been setting new standards for all to follow.
The Opening Ceremony of CIMUN’s famed March Conference is considered to be one of the most important annual events held at the American University in Cairo. The list of previous keynote speakers at our opening include:
- Former Secretary General of the UN H.E. Kofi Annan
- Former Secretary General of the UN H.E. Boutros Boutros Ghali
- Secretary General of the Arab League H.E. Amre Moussa
- Egypt’s First Lady H.H. Suzanne Mubarak
- Former judge at the International Court of Justice H.E. Nabil El Etribi
Since 2007 The CIMUN family has been glad to have high school students every year in this major event which gathered around 400 delegates last year. Our participants in the last 4 years succeeded in tackling topics of concern in a diplomatic manner, enriching their debates with creative ideas and inspiring thoughts, and concluding it with the adoption of their resolutions to the topics.
Not only have we been simulating the diplomatic aspect of the UN, but also we have been simulating the proactive side of the UN as well. Through our Awareness, Development and Environmental Programmes, we carry our message outside the boundaries of our councils to the real world, believing that this group of young students can truly make a difference in their Communities.
