In 1988, a student of the American University in Cairo (AUC), with the help of his professor, ventured to create a student run entity that allows for open debate on pressing political issues of the hour through the simulation of one council; the security council. Over the years, The Cairo International Model United Nations (CIMUN) has grown and expanded immensely, yet has managed to preserve its character and remain true to its initial goal of providing an intellectually stimulating environment for youth.

In the stifling atmosphere of fear, oppression, and corruption that we live in today, CIMUN is truly a breath of fresh air that gives students of diverse beliefs and backgrounds a chance to question, debate, and challenge the methods that govern the world. This is true whether during the academic sessions and conference where the delegates are given the opportunity to rewrite the resolutions and declarations that control the world, or during the ten month long process of organizing for the conference where the heads and members of the various committees find new, creative, and unconventional ideas that make every CIMUN conference unique from the other.

The CIMUN organization is divided into three main organs:

The Academic Committee, which includes seven academic councils where delegates and secretariats from around the world discuss political, economic, social, and legal issues.

The Organizing Committee, which includes seven committees and two coordinators, that works to organize every logistical detail pertaining to the conference.

The Programmes, which include the Model United Nations Development Programme (MUNDP), the Model United Nations Awareness Programme (MUNAP), and the Model United Nations Environmental Programme (MUNEP), that work to spread the mission and beliefs and CIMUN beyond campus walls.

On this website, you will be able to obtain more information about the councils, committees, and programmes of CIMUN. We hope you will find it useful.

Sincerely,

Hussein Salama                                     Omar El Nayal                             Amin Badra
